The Princess of Cleves - 1 Mam
Here we are.
Short novel for which our literary scholars say it is the first psychological novel in this character he has to leave the facts to be interested in moods.
So I just read the first novel in French literature.
I did well.
A historical context significant: the story takes place during the reign of Henry II. The court held that it is most beautiful and most magnificent in the country.
"The magnificence and gallantry never appeared in France so brilliantly in the last years of the reign of Henry the second."
First sentence of the book.
The intrigues are going well and struggles for power are at the heart of the interests of each other. No obstacle would prevent the rise of a duke, a prince of the recognition or favors of a lady. And if the lady in question or the Duke does appeal anymore to the sovereign, the big deal of away from the court to relegate to a subordinate position, not its rank-would not allow it-no, just distant. Just like when
Rachida it away.
Except we're in the sixteenth century and I'm supposed to talk about the Princess of Cleves, I guess the air slightly pinched and sharp eye waiting patiently (as the Princess of Cleves is patient) in the pages of this great short novel.
It therefore still wait a bit before I express to him what it generates in me the paradox of having as many wanted him to bow than to give him a good kick in the butt.
